Smoking Gunbarul shoots down Exiles

M & B kicked off their Sunday season at Bray with an easy 8 wicket win with over The Exiles with 27 overs to spare. With the previous day's games against Boyne Hill providing excellent early season preparation, the same could be not said for this Sunday fare.
After skipper Armstrong lost the toss M & B we're asked to bowl. As was the case last season the early inroads were made by Sunday strike bowler Arul "gunbarul" Appavoo, albeit ably assisted by the opposition batsmen. With the opener cleaned bowled courtesy of an ugly swipe across the line and the other opener hitting a short ball from Matt Armstrong to Thomas Allen(who remarkably caught it). Armstrong immediately doubted the wisdom of the opposition skipper to bat first. To be fair to the skipper, he did shape as if he could hang around and build an innings, unluckily for him he was on the end of a pearler from gunbarul - left arm round moving into the right hander pitching and moving away and hitting the top of off(hit that if you can!)to leave The Exiles precariously placed at 12 for 4. Before Armstrong had the chance to pull gunbarul from the attack and prevent anymore harm gunbarul struck again hitting the timbers once more, to finish with figures of 5/1/6/4 (all clean bowled)and take his first week's tally to 7 victims. Armstrong's decision to bring the Sunday spin twins of Butler & Allen on to possibly bring some light relief backfired as Allen promptly gained an LBW decision to reduce Exiles to a massive 13 for 6, which prompted bar steward / head chef, 50 year old Tony Brooks, to come marching out to enquiree would tea be taken be taken between innings? Armstrong said "no", after the game. 13 for 6 soon became 14 for 7 and then 22 for 8 ! Whereupon a number of the M & B players enquired to skipper Armstrong about a 20/20 game after with M & B batting first. Thankfully it never came to that as Khan & Weera managed to cobble together a 9th wicket partnership of 50, to bring some sort of respectability to the total. Alas for The Exiles the 10th wicket fell straight after meaning Exiles posted a paltry 72 in 27 overs, albeit allowing tea to be taken between innings. Needless to say all six M & B bowlers posted good returns with gunbarul being the standout. New player Callum Phillips showed promise generating good pace and bounce, getting one delivery to thud into the gut of rotund M & B keeper Brian Dixon.
Predictably M & B soon knocked off the runs for the loss of two wickets inside 13 overs. William Cunliffe got his run scoring off and running before he was castled for the second time this weekend, for 19. Rather surprisingly Raoul Cheema was actually dismissed, stumped for 29, obviously too busy thinking which club he will play his league cricket for this season. Farmer William Western-Kaye quickly finished off proceedings hitting two boundaries to finish on 21no before Dixon could face a ball. Leaving Dixon and Atif Amin on the TFC bench.
