News from the Pavilion - January 9th 2014
20 Jan
Well that's the first full week over and done with!
Friday nights generally leave one with that feeling that a smackerel (with apologies to AA Milne for the plagiarism, but it is a brilliant word - in Pooh's case it was Hunny or condensed milk, not really what I've got in mind) of something would help ease life along one way or another.
I think the festive season must have dulled (even further) my wits as I am unable to think of anything to nimmer on about tonight so, with a relieved air you can read on unfettered by ludicrous eulogising, eloboration or embellishment (hold on, I'm warming up now). This may be due to the fact that I am reading Simon Pegg's autobiography at the moment, and whilst funny, if I tell you that he makes me seem concise and to the point you will get the idea and possibly understand my stupor.
There is much to tell you of.
Number 1 priority is the Comedy Night on 25th Jan.
Can we all start a New Year's resolution together?
You see, I don't mean to be self deprecating or anything, but when you are a short, fat geezer, stress is not good for you.
Stress Tony, what stress, I hear you ask? (to be clear, I can't ACTUALLY hear you, I am using an illustrative form of sarcasm to make a point and, hopefully, win you over - probably futile as you are more likely to be thinking ha, nice one, let's wind the fat fool up).
Returning to the stress...when an event is up for weeks on end, and people say that they're coming but never book or buy tickets until the day before or even that day, it is stressful (I had a full head of hair, not unlike Roger Daltrey in his prime before I started this job you know) so, whilst it's called a Comedy Night the laugh does not have to be at my expense, unless you insist! It would be great if we applied this to all events going forward.
Details and the opportunity to book will be on the website from tomorrow and also available to book behind the bar.
We have put together a little Social Calendar for the first five months of the year so get yer quills out and get writing!
- 25/01 3rd Comedy Night
- 14/02 Valentines Dinner
- 01/03 Jazz Night
- 05/04 4th Comedy Night
- 13/04 Beer Festival /Hockey Vets Tournament
- 03/05 Motown Night
- 31/05 5th Comedy night
We will be adding Quiz nights, occasional Music nights and black nights a long way from home...no, sorry that last bit was a Deep Purple lyric, what I meant to say was that we are also encouraging Friday nights to be our Games Nights also, where one can choose from the array of traditional pub games and generally let your hair down (the hair bit isn't compulsory, though if you play the version of 'shut the box' that the Friday crew do, it is inevitable, obviously only metaphorically in my case). we have Crib, cards, Dominoes, Shut the Box, Shove Ha'penny...and it seems to be growing by the week.
And do NOT forget that in February the 6 Nations Championship commences and we will need to all stand together whilst this emotional rollercoaster unfolds before our very eyes!
The weekend sees the usual array of sports on t'box but sadly for all of you, the highlight is the first game on betwixt Hull and Chelsea at 12:45, which clearly means that anything else will be an anti-climax, though, there is a chance of having a good laugh at Man Utd in the early evening!
Sunday sees the return of the Sunday Roast and it is advisable to book to avoid disappointment (service from 13:00-15:30).
That's about it for now.
We hope to see you soon.
Tony & Max
