News from the Pavilion - 21st March
21 Mar
I was sitting in the bar, at my PC watching the day turn into winter on Thursday, listening to clowns on the radio predicting 'wintery showers'.
We live in a time of euphemisms don't we?
They mean snow.
I suppose that would give us the full set, I don't know about you but spring was a lovely weekend wasn't it?!
To give some perspective, this time last year we had a good 4 inches of snow on the Saturday.
Political Correctness, it drives me mad...it all makes me feel very Peter Finch in 'Network'.
I would like to make a personal note of thanks to John Stuchbery, one of our members, originally of the Hockey Club, John fully embraces the Pavilion concept and supports us in the bar, at events and often provides sponsorship when called upon. All of these things are great, but what I am eulogising about today is the fact that, weather permitting, John has, for the last 10 months or so, donned safety goggles and strimmed the area around the end of the drive, greatly improving that aspect and also making it safer to get in and out of the place. This week he was there toiling away and it is rare to find people who selflessly do such things and so, rather than the usual diatribe of rubbish I inflict on you, I thought I would publicly say thanks to him.
We have some new events coming up that we'd like to draw your attention to.
Friday April 11th is our third Quiz Night - there's no charge for this and it's all for fun but the first two were great evenings so make a note in your diary, get a team together and prepare for some public abuse!!
May the third is our Motown Night, we have a DJ and are looking to do something special on the night, details will follow but again please bung it in the diary and all will be revealed in a week or so.
The 31st May sees our next Comedy Night, so plenty of time to plan ahead - £10 per ticket.
The final date saver is June 7th when we have Alan Mullery coming to do a World Cup Preview and Question and Answer evening, tickets are £20 and include a barbecue (food from, obviously, we won't be giving everyone a barbecue to take home, that would be ridiculous and not very cost effective!).
The website will be updated with this info and will have the provision to book tickets over the weekend.
Today we are open from 17:30 and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00, when there will be bar food available and the obvious highlight on the tv for sport is Chelsea Vs Arsenal at 12ish, there may be some other football of little/no consequence also, and of course we can all have a good laugh at England in the 20:20 World Cup as they start their campaign...it is laugh or sob uncontrollably I'm afraid!
We hope to see you soon.
Tony & Max
