Welcome Pack
We would like to welcome old and new parents to Maidenhead & Bray Cricket Club.
This pack has been introduced to give parents an insight and an understanding of how the Colts section hopes to achieve it's aims and objectives. It includes contact details, a commonly asked question and answer section, all of our codes of conduct forms, a Membership form, a few suggestions on how you can become involved and some general information about the club.
The club provides opportunities for young people ( boys and girls ) between the ages of 6 and 17 to receive cricket coaching and an opportunity to play competitive cricket in the Berkshire Colts Cricket League.
We welcome all parents to the training sessions and club matches and value your support. We are very keen to try and involve parents in the club; therefore all feedback comments and ideas are welcome. Please feel free to contact any member of the Club's committee or Coaching staff with your suggestions. It's only through interaction can we hope to improve your child's experience.
Frequently Asked Questions

- How much will it cost?
- From the 2008 season Maidenhead & Bray
Cricket Club are introducing annual subscriptions for all colts.
Why are we doing this?
There are several reasons.
- It will mean Coaches will spend more time coaching rather than collecting weekly fees.
- To instigate a Membership Card scheme.
- To generate a feeling of commitment and belonging to the club.
- It will enable the club to better prepare for it's financial commitments to the colts section. ( training, equipment, ground, etc )
- Many other cricket clubs manage their colts subscriptions in this manner.
For this year all colts will be asked to pay £00 at the beginning of the season. This will comprise normally of 20 to 22 coaching sessions. There will be a registration evening on the first Friday of the cricket season, the specific date will be posted on the website, in the Maidenhead Advertiser and sent by email to all existing members. It is anticipated that all subscriptions will be collected within the first three weeks of the start of outdoor nets.
So what about children arriving during the season. They will have the option of paying weekly for two weeks to see if they wish to continue. If this is the case they will be asked to pay the balance for the weeks outstanding.
Match fees will be in addition to the above subscription at £2 a match.
Please make cheques payable to Maidenhead & Bray Cricket Club and pass them (or cash) to the Coach, Colts manager or Bar Manager. Please don't forget the Registration form with the money. If you have any difficulties with the above arrangements please speak to the coach or manager.

- What is Clubmark and why is it important?
- The development and accreditation scheme that
Sport England has created in partnership with the ECB to
recognises and accredit clubs that are committed to proved a
safe, effective and child-friendly environment for children and
young people.
Clubmark sets criteria in the following categories:
- Duty of care and child protection
- Coaching and competition
- Sports equity and ethics
- Club management
The development of Clubmark by Sport England has two main objectives:
- To ensure that the NGB accreditation programmes contain the core criteria of safe, effective and child-friendly clubs.
- To enable parents/carers and sports professionals to recognise an accredited club through a common branding.
- Are places limited?
- The club is open to everyone regardless of
background or ability, including complete beginners of all ages.
You do not need to have played cricket at school.
The normal minimum age is 6 (Year 2 at school). We do have some younger children, particularly siblings, however we do ask that a parent or other carer is present for the under 6’s.
The oldest Colts team we currently run is the Under 17's . Above this age, players usually take part in the Seniors practice sessions.
Children with disabilities are as welcome as anyone else. . For more details please contact the Colts Manager.

Match Days
- Can I help?
- Like all clubs Maidenhead & Bray rely on a
small number of dedicated and enthusiastic members to move the
section forward.Below are just a few suggestions on how you might
help.
Support
- Support at training and matches. A coke and a packet of crisps goes along way!!!
- Supporting club functions. There are numerous events arranged through out the season and your participation does make a difference.
Fund Raising
Sponsorship
Administration
- Take registration on training nights
- Collection of match fees.
- Help with Scoring, umpiring, placing of boundary markers and stumps and refreshments on match days. These small things make a difference.
- Do you have a selection policy?
- The club aim to be successful in all competitions it enters and to that end we will select the most competitive side available at the time. However; will we never lose sight of the fact that the junior section is there to develop players of all abilities to improve their skills and nurture their enjoyment of cricket.
- Do you run additional coaching courses?
- No information yet!!!
- Do we cater for girls?
- No information yet!!!
- What type of cricket do you play?
- All of our teams play in the Berkshire
Colts League.
Under 9's
All games are played with an Incrediball, a soft look-a-like cricket ball. The teams consist of 10 players per side, the batting side bats in pairs for 4 overs each trying to add to the teams starting total of 200, if anyone is out 5 runs are taken away from the total but the batsman remains in. Each player on the bowling side has 2 overs each. The side with the most runs wins!!!
Pads, gloves, helmets are not required but an abdominal protector, better known as a ‘box’ is.
All other teams
A limited over game of 20 overs per side, winner takes all. Well that is not exactly true, there is a fancy points system where you can loose and still take points from the game.
There are limitations on the number of overs an individual can bowl and the runs they can score depending on the age group. The pitch length and ball size will also vary according to age.
- What is our aim?
- The whole focus of the Colts Section is on
developing players in a friendly and safe environment. The
following points are of particular note.
- To try to ensure that all our colts have the opportunity to play in League or friendly matches.
- To provide and maintain the highest quality practice facilities.
- To provide and deliver high quality planned training.
Codes of Conduct
Introduction
These codes reflect policies of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the conduct of junior cricket throughout the United Kingdom. They are intended to provide guidance to all those persons who are associated with Junior cricket players and in particular, those responsible for directing their activities.
The codes are not an exclusive statement for the conduct of junior cricket. Rather, they are a statement of ethics which should underlie more detailed policies on such matters as skill acquisition, modified games and the structure of competitions; all with the purpose of making junior cricket an even more attractive, healthy and worthwhile activity for children.
