MBCC Under 13's Hurricanes Versus Woodley 17/06/2008
A 10 man Maidenhead & Bray U13's team kept up their 100% record in the Berkshire League so far this season by defeating Woodley, but were made to work very hard by a Woodley team who put on a performance which belied their lowly status in the League.
Bray won the toss and opted to bat. The Bray openers were confronted by some very tight and disciplined bowling at the outset and after 8 overs, with the loss of one wicket, the score had only reached 17.
At this stage Simon Wykes(30 Retired) and Alex Hess(31Retired) attacked the bowling to great effect and with Sachin Moudgil also weighing in with a valuable 20 not out the innings closed at 98 for 2 after the allotted 20 overs.
The Woodley openers set about their task in fine style, particularly Akram who in hitting an excellent and rapid 31(Retired) showed himself to be the best batsman that Bray have encounterd in the league so far this season. His opening partner continued in the same vein so that after 10overs the score had reached 54 with Woodley having 9 wickets intact.
At this point the Bray bowlers started to exert a strangehold and wickets began to fell regularly as the run rate fell. Simon Wykes took 3 for 4 off 3 overs, helped by an outstanding catch in the covers from Benjamin Borst,
and Matt Balmer 2 for 4 off 2 overs. With Sachin Moudgill also taking 2 wickets the Woodley innings finished on 89 for 7 after their 20 overs, giving Bray a victory by the narrow margin of 9 runs.
Deserving of particular mention is Cameron Upton, an U10 making his debut in the U13's, who set a fine example in the field to his older team mates.
