MBCC Second XI V's Datchet 2 5/05/2007

The traditional season curtain raiser between these 2 clubs gave an interesting insight into what may lie ahead in the season to come. In a dress rehearsal for the opening league game against each other next weekend it was more a case jockeying for position and sizing each other up than anything else. M & Bs skipper Charlie Jacobsen started the season well with losing the toss and Datchet electing to bat. A cautious start by the visitors coupled with restrictive bowling by Armstrong and Alam meant that after 10 overs Datchet were restricted to 30 - 0. However a robust innings of 94 from Williams left Datchet with a defendable total of 217/3 off their 40 overs.

In reply M & B started brightly, and despite the early loss of Amin never fell behind the required rate. Bray's innings was steered expertly by Hewit who made a fine 89, and despite Kenny's best efforts (2/54), Alam hit the winning runs to get to 218/7 with overs to spare. Now onto next weekend where the season starts in earnest.
