MBCC Fourth XI V's Falkland 4 12/05/2007

With play reduced to 96 overs by the rain, Maidenhead and Bray 4th won the toss and inserted Falklands 4th. An accurate and controlled spell by openers K Kumar and A Zaman restricted the opposition to 56 runs off the first 20 overs. This good work was continued by Matt Botha and Ben Howard. The Falkland Captain was caught off the bowling Matt Botha by an acrobatic catch by Bhavin Vaja of Botha’s bowling just as he was starting to look ominous. Falkland had been restricted to a further 80 runs of the next 20 overs. Falklands then regrouped and with the aid of some indifferent fielding late on in the innings ended on a respectable total of 206 for 6 after their 50 Overs.

In response M&B made a steady start with openers Vaja and Botha bringing up 61 for the first wicket. J. Zaman (34 no ) and M Malhotra (75) then saw the side to within a whisker of victory when Malhotra was bowled having hit 6 fours and 4 sixes in a brutal onslaught that saw his 75 runs inside 20 overs. It was up to the skipper J. Sidwell in the fading light to bring up the tying runs. The game ended in an anticlimax when the winning run was secured via a wide delivery.

Man of the Match: M, Malhotra
