MBCC First XI V's Windsor 26/07/2008
On Saturday we took on 5th Place Windsor. Having beaten them earlier in the season confidence was high for another favourable result.
Windsor won the toss and chose to bat and after 2 overs were 26-0! a good start. this put Bray on the back foot right from the start. In the 3rd over However Tom Evans struck and the score was 30-1. Coyne then added his name to the scorebook in the 4th over leaving the home side 36-2. A far better score line for Bray. Windsor then got settled and Bashir and Valambhia came into the attack. A few more wickets fell and the run rate slowed right up. A ten over stint in the middle went for just 20 runs including 6 maidens. A competitive total was looking impossible. Windsor battled hard though and ended up on 205-8 after their allocated 52 overs.
Bray then came to the crease. The first over dismissal of Gully Khan was a loss Bray didn't need. A steady Partnership between Kennedy and Bashir repaired that damage before the wicket of Kennedy fell. Karen Kumar (49) then came to the crease. He witnessed the loss of Bashir shortly after his arrival and then That of Van Niekerk shortly after that and Bray were in trouble at 41-4. Faisal Choudhary (77) then came to the crease and together with Kumar put on a 111 partnership to put Bray in a winning position needing just 54 runs with 5 wickets in hand! This, however, was not as easy as expected! Kumar battled hard from one end and the rest of the Bray batsmen struggled to score and the match ended up with Bray equalling the Windsor total of 205 before being bowled out and the match ended in a tie.
Obviously this is not eh ideal end to a game that we should have one. We claimed 15 points though and still managed to extend our lead at the top of the table. We have a big game this weekend against Datchet and will put last weeks mishap behind us and focus on the rest of the season.
