MBBC Under13's V's Finchampstead 27/05/2007

At the end of a damp week, Maidenhead & Bray Under 13 Spitfires were delighted to get a match under way at last at home against Finchampstead. And on a slow but well prepared wicket, they proved too strong for their visitors to record their second win in succession.

For the thrid time already this season, William O'Shea provided the backbone of the M'H & Bray innings, hitting 14 valuable runs on a tricky wicket whilst staying in for 15 overs. At the other end, Monty Bampfield was the only player on either side really to come to terms with the wicket and had put Bray in a strong position by the time he retired on 30. Useful knocks from Jamie Odell and Max Penn at the end ensured Bray set a testing target of 95.

Finchampstead never looked like keeping up with the run rate, faced by steady bowling from all the Bray line up and some tigerish fielding. Highlights of the innings were outstanding wicket keeping by William Temple, 2 wickets apiece for Nicholas Grey and Kaleem Sayid, excellent spells from Yousuf Ali and Jordan Jawandha, and a spectacular close catch by Bampfield. Finchampstead closed their 20 overs on 48 for 7, resulting in a win for Maidenhead & Bray by a convincing 47 runs.
