Under 13's reach the National Club Championship

Maidenhead & Bray moved through to the quarter final stage in the South & West Region of the National U13 Club Championship when they convincingly beat South Wiltshire by 55 runs on Sunday.

On a warm morning at Bray the Wiltshire team won the toss and opted to bowl first. They made a fine start when Bray opener Sachin Moudgil was run out by a direct hit from the last ball of the 1st over. However Savy Joshi (8) and Brett Herron (17) stabilised the innings and, greatly assisted by a proliferation of wides, no balls and byes, took the score up to 54 in the 8th over before Joshi was caught. Shortly after Herron was caught and bowled to leave Bray on 64 for 3 after 9 overs. The new batsmen Alex Hess (27 not out) and Jamie Odell (26) had to proceed cautiously at first in the face of some accurate mid innings bowling as they built a partnership of 59 runs. Batting together for just under 10 overs they were only able to compile 23 runs in their first 6 overs together but accelerated the scoring rate perfectly in the next 4 overs as they added a further 36 runs. Odell was caught off of the first ball of the last over but with Hess and new batsmen Vishal Gossain ( 8 not out) hitting out powerfully the Bray score finished at a formidable 138 for 4 after their allotted 20 overs.

The South Wiltshire opening bat Hansford (30 Retired) got their reply off to an excellent start but with limited support at the other end the momentum he gave to the innings ended with his retirement under competition rules at 30. The Bray bowlers proceeded to take 8 wickets for 29 runs as South Wiltshire collapsed from 54 for 1 in the 10th over to 83 for 9 in the 18th with Jamie Odell claiming 2 for 13 from his 4 overs, Vishal Gossain 2 for 18, Brett Herron 1 for 14 and Cameron Mahon 1 for 28. Sachin Moudgil bowled the last batsmen to leave Bray victors by a comfortsble 55 runs. They are now due to travel to the Gloucestershire champions on 19th July seeking the win that would enable them to be one of the 4 clubs qualifying for the South & West Regional final.
