Bray pushed all the way by Wooburn Narkovians
The form book suggested that Maidenhead & Bray should reach their second final in two years however Wooburn Narkovians pushed them all the way with a valiant team effort.
Wooburn won the toss and surprisingly decided to field. However this was vindicated when in the first over Bray lost their first opener clean bowled to Tennant. Things then went from bad to worse as Gully Khan was run out with a direct hit and Faisel Choudhary was caught behind for Richie Barker's first wicket reducing Bray to 11 for 3. Steady accurate bowling from Barker who finished with excellent figures of 4-42 kept the wickets tumbling. However a stand of 40 between Najeeb Bashir (34) and John Hewitt started putting the Bray innings back on track. Bashir was caught on the boundry shortly before he would have been retired automatically which bought Amir Riaz to the wicket. Amir kept the pace up and a second stand of 40 with Hewitt brought Bray back to 123-7 off 15 overs as Hewitt was retired Julian Rules for 33. Ryan Bezuidenhout then supported Riaz well and Bray finished on 162 all out in their 20 overs.
A tough total for Wooburn at over 8 an over meant that they needed to bat sensibly for the first 10 overs and not lose too many wickets. The last ball of the 3rd over saw the breakthrough with Pidgeon being LBW to Faisel Choudhary. At 35 - 1 halfway through the 7th over an upset still looked possible but then Choudhary struck with his second wicket. A change of bowling then exposed the Wooburn batsmen with Valambhia getting a wicket with his first ball and last ball of his first over. Bashir then struck at the other end reducing Wooburn to 49 for 5 in the 10th over. However the Wooburn skipper David Small had other ideas and started to try and turn the game back in their favour. With three huge sixes he scored a quick fire 41 but the Bray total was just a step too far and Ryan Bezuidenhout deceived him in the flight and he lobed up a simple catch to Bashir. Richie Barker was 12 not out at the end which capped a great game for him and the innings closed on 124 all out. Amir Riaz was voted Man of the Match for his vital innings in re-building the Bray innings.
